I am planning my next trip.

On November 1, I will take off from Cleveland, Ohio, travel through the US, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and the northern part of Costa Rica, and (hopefully) end up at El Nidito Guesthouse in Sabalito, Costa Rica.

I have yet to buy my ugly-but-trusty used SUV, but I have plenty to pack into it. I’m taking my bike (a newly restored, muddy GT Avalanche), kiteboarding gear (7m, 9m, and 12m that I haven’t used yet, but hope to have a chance along the way), various house things for the B&B, and my camping gear so I don’t have to spend too much money (since I spent it all on gear, anyway).

My mom may or may not be accompanying me to Mexico, but Flaco, my best friend/lover, will meet me in Monterrey, Mexico, and be my co-pilot for the trip.

I’m nervous. And I’m never nervous about traveling. Usually, I can just pack a little backpack, hop a plane, and end up somewhere without any jitters or bouts of nausea. Maybe I’m nervous because I will be in charge of actual objects, and expensive objects at that. Maybe I’m nervous because every Joe Schmoe has been eager to tell me horror stories about driving through Mexico or Guatemala. But, these things make me nervous AND amp me up. I’m taking the trip, no matter what.
